Scott Buchanan Barden creates expressionist oil paintings using thick, bright colours. Many of his images depict scenes from where he lives in Bradford, West Yorkshire. These city-scapes are often from a birds eye perspective, looking down upon the buildings from above. Other images depict East Anglia, where Scott grew up, and northern Spain where Scott has travelled. These can also be seen in his online photograph album.

Influences
Scott takes inspiration from all around him, describing man made architecture, the global environment and history as three major influences.
A great number of artists have influenced his style and beliefs, particularly Vincent Van Gogh, Edvard Munch, L S Lowry, Chaim Soutine, Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt , Francisco Goya, Pieter Bruegel and many of the German Expressionist painters. Multi media artistic influences include Red Grooms and Jeff Wall as well as film makers like Murnau, Jiri Barta, Jan Svankmajer, Karel Zeman, Akira Kurosawa, Ralph Bakshi, Ken Russell, Elim Klimov, Serge Eisenstein and Victor Meldrew.
Music has also been of crucial importance, particularly the works of Gustav Mahler and Ludwig Van Beethoven. Dimitri Shostakovich, Serge Prokofiev, Alberto Ginastera, Anton Bruckner, Alfred Schnittke and Alban Berg are also inspirational favourites.
