Scott Buchanan Bardens' art is wide ranging in it's interests and mediums. He has spent many years creating multimedia projects involving animation, photography, set design, props, acting and anything else he can turn his hand to.
Ambitious projects have included large scale recreations of military periods in history including the Napoleonic Wars, American Civil War and 1st World War. Photographs of these scenes can be viewed in his album. Through these Scott expresses the ridiculousness of war, with its inpracticable uniforms, more suited to a banquet than the brutality and gore of battle. In his 1st world war images Scott portrays the last flight of the Red Baron who, in his heraldic bright red tri-plane, contrasts vividly with the backdrop of the mud and mechanised slaughter in the trenches below.
Scott creates most of his works from scratch, from the designing and making of the costumes to the making of the props out of papier mache, wood and canvas. He paints his own backdrops and is involved throughout the documentation, editing and photographic process. He can even be seen posing and acting within the images themselves.
Images displayed at the Ffotogallery in Cardiff, Wales (1997) were a collaborative project merging Scotts historical recreations and the talents of photographer, Dave Daggers.
